Twelve years ago, Bobby was still a very small child living in Nagwa slum. When we met her, she had a serious wound in her head with maggots creeping out. An x-ray in Benaras Hindu University showed that the maggots were trying to eat into her skull – literally – and we had to apply an aggressive fluid twice a day, to force these creatures out.
Bobby’s mother died due to tuberculosis and her father doesn’t want to look after her. For years now, she has lived with her grandmother Geeta, who takes care of her to the best of her abilities. At times, we fear that Geeta, who has a weak health, will not live long. What then will happen to Bobby? She luckily attends Duniya Foundation where she receives free education, where she is looked after very well and where she receives a nutricious hot meal every day.
The picture on the right was twelve years ago, when we tried to get rid of the maggots. The other shows the beautiful girl she is now.
